An Overview of Condition Monitoring Techniques for Capacitors in DC-Link Applications

Capacitors are widely used in dc links of power electronic converters to balance power, suppress voltage ripple, and store short-term energy. Condition monitoring (CM) dc-link capacitors has great significance enhancing the reliability converter systems. Over past few years, many efforts have been made realize CM capacitors. This article gives an overview a comprehensive comparative evaluation them with emphasis on application objectives, implementation methods, accuracy when being used. First, design procedure for is introduced. Second, main capacitor parameters estimation principles summarized. According these principles, various possible methods derived step-by-step manner. On this basis, review comparison schemes different types applications provided. Finally, recommendations future research trends presented.
